Have You Got What It Takes To Be The Next Bond

b17To be perfectly honest I’d be a bit disappointed if the next Bond was a woman. No eye candy for a start.

Don’t get me wrong I’m all for feminism, equal pay for actors etc but I like Daniel Craig (possibly Tom Hiddleston?) too much to give him up.

The BBC article recently on MI6 recruiting on Mumsnet made for an amusing read.

Taken from a government report: Women in the Intelligence Community “Overall women make up 38.1% of all SIS (Secret Intelligence Service)staff. There is plenty of evidence that women need more encouragement to apply for jobs or promotion.

The Agencies should explore groups other than graduates.

Women or mothers in middle-age or midcareer, who may have taken some years out to bring up children, may offer an untapped recruitment pool. The Agencies should use a broad range of mediums to advertise, including those specifically for women and mothers such as Mumsnet”

Hundreds of women (some could possibly be men disguised as women – but that’s a subject for another day) posting their unique attributes.

Listed below are the Mumsnet attributes of what it takes to be a

Why My Business Model Is Focused on Employee Compensation

b14As a graduate with a four-year Bachelor of Science Degree in Interior Design, my number one goal when graduating was to become a salaried designer. I knew that if I wanted to be fairly compensated for my work, I needed to know my self-worth without being entitled, and should be confident enough to negotiate my first paycheck. I was tired of working for a measly hourly wage (so I thought!) and I could not wait to enter adulthood with a consistent and steady income. I was in for a rude awakening.

With any type of legal matters, especially for an employer, there are ways to cut corners for fair compensation. It seemed that where hourly work could be cut to be held just under “full-time,” the opposite was true for salaried work. I was working my second full-time salaried position as a designer when I realized I was expected to get to work an hour early, and stay at least an hour past 5:00, the leaving time. This however was still not even the hours I was expected to work, as I would

What Kind of Jobs Can I Get When Studying Abroad

b13Part time jobs will go a long way toward supplementing your income when you are studying abroad. The money you get can help to cover your cost of living, or pay for your leisure activities or travel holidays across the country. Many international students do take up some form of employment while studying abroad, and they have a lot of fun while doing so!

There are many part-time or vacation jobs that you can take up as a student. Before getting started, check your visa restrictions. You may not be permitted to work more than a certain number of hours in a week during your course session time. Whatever the work you choose, it will add to your life experiences and you can make new friends and get a taste of the local culture.

Overseas students often work as waiting and bar staff, baristas, mall aides, aged care workers, data entry or call centre personnel, or as language tutors. If you have any special skills like musical talent or a flair for art, you can teach others for a fee. Animal lovers can take

b11If you are looking for a job or considering a change of career, you need to find more than one way of finding job in today’s technology driven world that is going through an economic downtrend. You certainly need to maximize your chances of getting job by knowing more about the ways that present day jobseekers are employing for finding jobs. The Importance of Your Job Searching Attitude

b10It’s quite rare to come across people who got their first job soon after having applied for it. Perhaps, as a teenager, you had a neighbor in business whom you asked for a job and he hired you, but these days job searches are not so simple or so quick to come by.

Getting hired needs continued efforts. Normally, it requires facing many interviews and getting rejected at times. In the process, you keep learning and are often required to modify and widen your approach many times.

Knowing the kind of job you are looking for and how to effectively search for such jobs helps reducing stress and enables you to continue with renewed efforts and a positive approach. There are many jobs available, and you have many options too. If you continue to be patient and diligent in your efforts, it’s not difficult to get an opportunity for the right job.

It should not be difficult for you to understand that the simpler it is to apply for a job, the more difficult it becomes for you to get noticeable. Look at it this

Job Searching Myths Debunked

b9People looking for jobs often have many mistaken ideas about job hunting. Generally, that’s due to superfluous knowledge about certain things. Job seekers come to know of half the things from different sources, mainly from word of mouth, and tend to assume the other half in a manner that suits them. All those things encourage people to develop myths about job hunting. Here, we’ll discuss about some such myths:

Myth 1: People think that they stand better chances of getting a job by registering with as many job search sites as possible.

That’s a wrong perception people have! Getting registered with all the possible sites doesn’t prompt employers to get in touch with you and offer you a job. You should also look for job opportunities in newspapers and business magazines. Most newspapers have a special section devoted to jobs, and many trade magazines too follow the same practice.

Myth 2: Employers are not really keen to employ people who have been changing jobs very frequently.

People who keep changing jobs frequently are considered to be unsure of them. It’s but natural for the employers to

Applicant Vs Application

b8Applying for a job shouldn’t be so difficult. As owner of an Executive Search Firm, I read and hear complaints every day about the difficulty of the application process. I hear the same complaints about the hiring process but that will be another article. I encourage HR Departments to realize how many valuable human assets they lose through their online application process.

In the world of online applications, it now takes a minimum of 30 to 45 minutes to complete the basic application — not including additional hours spent on assessment and personality tests. In the world of online applications, isn’t it time to ask “how many talented applicants will never be seen by your Hiring Managers because of your application process?” These are positions your Hiring Manager says he desperately needs to fill, right? The problem from my perspective: Most HR Department are too institutionalized and ‘rote’ in their behaviors to accommodate expedited hiring.

This may be a wake-up call for HR Departments! If your company branding is working; i.e., the applicants are finding your job site, why not make it a pleasure

What Valuable Career Has Yet To Be Established

b7In the career space it is becoming increasingly certain that the future of careers is increasingly uncertain. The headwinds of change are strengthening and what in traditional employment has looked stable is now looking unstable. There are a variety of economic and social shifts ushering in this climate of modification and adjustment, influenced largely by globalization, technology, and changing demographics with the trends looking irreversible. Given that significant change has a way of making people nervous and anxious it could seem that the future may be something to fear. But what if we were to reframe this phenomenon as an opportunity? It can be done.

Viewing undetermined career variations favorably begins with asking the question, “What valuable career(s) has/have yet to be established?” To begin answering the question let’s pass through the portal allowing us to view the world’s many challenges. How To Become A Physical Therapist

b5Physical therapy is a continually growing field and in my opinion is one of the best jobs to have if you enjoy problem solving, helping people and workdays that never see the same thing twice. Forbes has ranked physical therapy as “one of the ten happiest jobs” and as “one of the top ten jobs in high demand” for several years. The biggest perk of being a physical therapist is the ability to help people feel and move better, by relieving pain, rehabilitating injuries, and improving quality of life. Physical therapists’ vast knowledge of the muscles and joints of the human body and extensive understanding of body mechanics helps to decrease our own risk of injuries during sports and daily activities. The nature of our job also allows us to avoid being sedentary throughout the day and assists in our ability to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.

So now that the benefits of being a physical therapist have been established, how do you go about attaining such a rewarding job? What does it take to become a physical therapist?

Dream of Building a City Be an Urban Designer

b4What is urban design?

Since early man first settled, urban design has existed in some or the other form, though the term was finally coined in the 20th century. It’s a mix of landscape design, city planning and architecture. It is about designing and planning almost every aspect about a city. An urban designer needs to incorporate streets, buildings, landscape, public parks, transportation system, drainage, roads and every other aspect related to a city that you can think of. The task is Herculean!

These professionals have to balance both aesthetics and functionality. For example, while the city or the town that they’re working on, needs to have public parks and beautiful landscape, like artificial lakes etc; the city also needs to be functional and easy to navigate for people.

Similarly, while street furniture like benches, water coolers, dumpsters, street signs and lights are important from the furnishing point of view, they are also important from the point of view of providing people with civic amenities.

What does an urban designer do?

Most modern professionals in this career help in planning and upgrading the existing cities and towns.

Any professional in this field works with images and text to create elements and work that’s visually aesthetic. They create logos, brochures, website banners, sliders, and advertisement etc. They work with images, paintings, photographs and digital media to use image and photo editing software and create designs.

Not only do they make great creations, they also make their creations speak to people in a special way. They’re capable of creating graphics that send a message, both vocal and subtle as need be.

Some Job Opportunities

Whatever message it is that you’re trying to send out to the world, I’m sure you will agree that visual perception of a message is always higher and the impact more lasting. In that sense, this is a growing industry and experts are in high demand.

You can find these professionals working in either a graphic design firm or with advertising agencies or other media companies like magazines, publishers, websites, newspapers, museums, restaurants or even FMCG companies.

While an agency or a firm may expect you to be working on multiple projects for different clients, the in-house

Happening People Create Happening Accessories to Go With Fashion

b2What is Accessory Design?

It, refers to visualizing, planning and creating accessories that add to the costume and complete an ensemble. Accessories such as shows, jewelry, belts, hats, scarves handbags, cuff links, wallets, tie pins etc. are designed by these professionals to add a dash of personality, color and style to the consumer. Some experts tend to experiment with new, wild trends while others tend to stick with evergreen styles and materials such as black or tan leather etc.

The Work

Just like a fashion designer, an accessory designing expert plans the functionality and aesthetic appeal of every decorative item that you wear or carry on you. They have to be experts in current and past trends of fashion and be able to predict and lead the upcoming trends at the beginning of fashion seasons.

Once an expert has an idea, they usually try to bring it to life. Many of them draw it with pencil and paper. However, computer software is slowly becoming popular now. After the drawing, a prototype is built and then depending on the designer, the particular brand, and a lot of
